About Kevin Thomas
Experienced Music Teacher & Composer
Hi there! My name is Kevin, and I love teaching music. My passion for music was sparked by being the youngest in a family of musicians. I am a pianist and composer from Los Angeles who has been teaching for over a decade.
I received my Bachelor of Music from California State University Northridge, where I studied music composition with an emphasis in film scoring. Composing and improvising music are big passions of mine, and I always try to incorporate the creative process with learning an instrument. I have experience performing in many different musical settings, including jazz, classical, and progressive rock. I have performed in orchestral settings and conducted my original pieces.
My teaching philosophy is to encourage, inspire, and challenge.
Also, I believe that teaching effectively is learning to adapt to the needs of every student. I know that all students have different goals, and it is my job to give you the tools needed to reach those goals. I have a good knack for knowing my student's capabilities. Understanding students strengths allows me to challenge students to try things they may have thought they were not capable of achieving. I love teaching and enjoy watching my students of all ages grow as musicians!
